Treated decking is chemically treated to prevent decay, infestation and to provide a durable solution that will withstand all weather conditions for many years to come.
Untreated decking boards are made from natural hardwoods such as cedar or redwood, are rich in tannis, an organic chemical which protects the wood from rotting and will also provide a long term solution and withstand the rigours of weather conditions in the same way treated decking will.
Composite decking is made by combining woods with plastics which are then heated and formed into what in appearance, looks to be ‘wooden’ boarding. This style of decking is rot free and for certain applications can be lower maintenance with no need for sanding, re-staining etc. Whilst not as strong as wood, composite decking has it’s uses and is becoming more and more popular.
